class 1 - introductions / sketchbook
3rd-5th: 1/20/25 - 1/24/25
TK-2nd: 2/10/25 - 2/15/25
We’ll get to know each other by sharing some work that we’ve made before.
Each student will recieve a sketchbook that they use for the semester.
We’ll decorate our sketchbooks, do a directed draw, and a drawing from life.
class 2 - focal point (Technique) Sketchbook
3rd-5th: 2/17/25 - 1/21/25
TK-2nd: 3/3/25 - 3/7/25
We’ll talk about what a focal point is in visual art.
We’ll discuss the term “composition”. We’ll focus on linear, radial, and compound compositions.
We’ll draw shapes in different arrangements to create different areas of focus.
The students will create their own compositions and see if they can have their classmates find their focal point.
class 3 - focal point (Expression) watercolor
3rd-5th: 2/24/25 - 1/28/25
TK-2nd: 3/10/25 - 3/14/25
We’ll apply what we learned about focal point and composition to a watercolor painting of koi fish.
We’ll plan out our compositions to have a clear focal point.
We’ll learn a watercolor technique called “glazing” to build up layers of color.
